Binyamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, announced that the conflict in Gaza will continue following the killing of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas. In a video message, Netanyahu stated that while Israel has "settled the score," their mission remains unfinished. Israeli forces reportedly shot Sinwar along with two other Hamas leaders in southern Gaza on Wednesday night. Sinwar had been named Hamas's leader in August and was one of the key figures behind the October 7 attacks. In recent months, Israel has eliminated several high-ranking Hamas officials, including Ismail Haniyeh, the former political chief, and Muhammad Deif, the long-standing military commander.

The discovery of other ancient hominins, such as Ardipithecus ramidus and Australopithecus anamensis, has pushed back the timeline of human origins and highlighted the complex interplay between various species. This evolving picture underscores that Au. afarensis was not alone in its era; rather, it was part of a diverse group that contributed to the lineage leading to modern humans.

Semiconductor stocks experienced a rebound following Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (TSMC) positive sales forecast, which projected a tripling of AI-product revenue this year. TSMC's strong performance provided a much-needed boost to an industry that had recently faced turmoil due to a disappointing outlook from ASML, another chipmaker. On Thursday, TSMC's shares surged by as much as 13% in New York trading, while major players like Nvidia, Broadcom, and Micron saw gains of around 4%. TSMC also raised its 2024 sales growth forecast to 30%, up from previous estimates of mid-20% growth, and noted that AI products would account for 15% of its total revenue. CEO C.C. Wei emphasized the strong demand for chips, stating that it is just the beginning of a significant trend. Overall, TSMC's optimistic outlook has alleviated concerns in the semiconductor sector, which has seen TSMC's stock rise over 100% year-to-date, outperforming both the iShares Semiconductor ETF and the S&P 500.
