World Events and Politics — Israel Launches More Strike
Israel conducted additional airstrikes in Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of at least 31 individuals, including two commanders from Hizbullah in southern Beirut. Among the deceased was Ibrahim Aqil, a high-ranking member of the Shia militia's leadership, who was sought by the U.S. for his involvement in the 1983 bombing of the American embassy in Beirut. Recently, Israel has intensified its military operations against Hizbullah, which has been launching rockets into northern Israel since the onset of the conflict in Gaza.
Science and Technology — Snap’s New AR Glasses
The Verge
Snap's former design engineer Sterling Crispin criticized the company's latest generation of augmented reality Spectacles, calling them “a disaster” and stating he has “a million negative things to say about the experience and the device.” However, Snap maintains that Crispin departed before key hardware and software decisions were made for this version of Spectacles. While Crispin acknowledged the challenges AR and VR devices face, he criticized the balance of features in Snap's new Spectacles without scrutinizing specific elements. Snap is not selling these glasses to the public but rather making them available to a limited number of Snapchat AR developers for $99 per month, with a minimum term of one year. The glasses have a 46-degree field of view and 45-minute battery life, which some view as limitations. Snap CEO Evan Spiegel expects AR glasses to be a meaningful business by the end of this decade, but the software still feels basic for a standalone device, and the field of view falls short of feeling like regular glasses, making augmented reality less engaging than the real world.
Business and Finance — What a Week For Intel
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, CNBC
Intel has faced significant challenges recently, including a dramatic decline in stock value and a disappointing earnings report that led to its worst market day in 50 years. In response, the company announced a separation of its manufacturing division from its core processor business while exploring a potential takeover by Qualcomm, although details remain unclear. Despite a recent stock rally of 11%, Intel's CEO Pat Gelsinger acknowledged ongoing struggles, including losing market share to competitors like AMD and Nvidia. Intel plans to invest over $100 billion by 2029 to build new chip factories and enhance its foundry services, with expectations of generating external revenue by 2027. The company is also receiving government support through funding from the CHIPS Act, aimed at bolstering U.S. semiconductor production. However, Intel's core business continues to decline, with significant drops in revenue from both PC and server chips, raising questions about its future direction in an increasingly competitive market.
Health and Wellness — Are Some Food More Filling Than Others?
Research has shown that certain foods are more filling than others, which significantly influences dietary choices and overall food consumption. For instance, a study published in Nature found that high-protein foods, such as legumes and dairy, promote satiety more effectively than carbohydrate-rich foods, thereby reducing overall calorie intake (Westerterp-Plantenga et al., 2009). Another study in Science demonstrated that fiber-rich foods like fruits and vegetables increase feelings of fullness due to their bulk and slower digestion rates, leading to lower energy density in meals (Slavin, 2005). Additionally, research in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition highlighted that the sensory properties of food, including taste and texture, also play a crucial role in satiety signaling, affecting how much we eat (Drewnowski & Almiron-Roig, 2010). These findings suggest that understanding the satiety effects of different foods can help individuals make healthier dietary choices and manage their weight more effectively.

Quote of the Day - Issac Newton
“We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” - Issac Newton
Isaac Newton (1643-1727) was a pivotal English mathematician and physicist, renowned for formulating the laws of motion and universal gravitation, which laid the groundwork for classical mechanics. His seminal work, Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica, published in 1687, is considered one of the most influential texts in the history of science, establishing principles that dominated scientific thought for centuries. In addition to his contributions to physics, Newton made significant advancements in mathematics, notably co-developing calculus, and he was knighted by Queen Anne in 1705 for his achievements.
