The Return of Donald Trump
Kamala Harris conceded to Donald Trump, promising a “peaceful transfer of power” and urging her supporters to “accept the results of this election” but continue “the fight that fuelled this campaign”. After winning Pennsylvania, the most important battleground state, Mr Trump’s victory in Wisconsin pushed him over the line, securing him 277 electoral college votes, with 270 required to win. Mr Trump claimed five of the seven swing states. His victories in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin followed wins in North Carolina and Georgia. The former president also won again in Iowa, despite a poll over the weekend giving Democrats hopes of an upset.
Science and Technology — Cheap Solar Panels Are Changing the World
The Atlantic
Recent reports indicate a significant surge in global solar energy capacity, with the world expected to install 29% more solar power this year compared to the previous year. This growth is particularly pronounced in the United States, where solar accounted for over half of new power installations last year, and internationally, as solar is projected to surpass all other energy sources by 2033. The rapid expansion is driven by decreasing costs and increasing adoption, especially in the Global South, where countries like South Africa and Kenya are seeing remarkable growth in small-scale solar installations. In South Africa, for instance, solar energy production jumped from an estimated 500 megawatts in 2019 to about 5,700 megawatts in early 2023. However, for this boom to reach its full potential, effective regulation and government support will be essential, as many countries have yet to fully embrace the transition to solar energy. Overall, the renewable energy landscape is shifting dramatically, with solar expected to play a central role in meeting future energy demands.

Song Recommendation — Take My Breath Away by Berlin
Quote of the Day
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”- Frank Herbert, Dune
Take my breath away. Anyway, enjoy your Americano!
